new york, new york!

Hi from the airport in New York! Here are some things I have done this week which have been truly brilliant:

  • Got a custom fragrance from The Fragrance Shop , which Gala Darling, one of my favorite bloggers, so highly recommended! It smells so lovely — like lavender & vanilla and some other brilliant blend of warm & sweet (yet light!) fragrances. Now nobody in the whole, entire world will smell like me — ever again! Ha! It was incredibly inexpensive, too: just a one-time mixing fee of $10 & then $21 for a roller-ball bottle full. I’m in love; I can’t stop smelling my wrists (both covertly & unashamedly!)
  • Found the perfect red-orange lipstick! It’s MAC’s “Lady Danger,” and it is the actual best. I am truly enamored. I went into the MAC store in SoHo & said, “I need a bright lipstick which is going to flatter my skintone, please!” and the fellow was so kind & helpful! He even put on my lipliner for me — my lips have never been so well-defined; I can definitely tell you that much!
  • Shopped! Oh, how I’ve shopped! I’ve gotten two pencil skirts, a pair of jeans, a sheer lacy black top (Ooh la la!), a sun-dress, and a brilliant fedora with feathers on the side! If my bank account weren’t suffering so drastically right now, you had better believe I would still be shopping, because swoon.
  • Walked. Walked, and walked, and walked some more. It’s so nice not to have to rely on a car to get me places! My two feet & the subway have taken me from one side of this island to the other, and back again countless times this week.
  • Perspired Profusely. (Dig my alliteration?!) Evidently, a couple of days ago was the hottest day New York has had on record. Ever. Ever. (!!!) I constantly had a nice sheen of sweat all over my body — also, a pointer: do not wear new, unwashed denim if you plan to sweat. My legs are blue. I should start singing that Eiffel 65 song. (Just kidding — you don’t want me to sing!)

And now I’m on the way home! I’m really excited. I had so much trouble at the Atlanta airport on my way here, and I’m hoping that I won’t spend 9 hours (nine!) at an airport any time soon … or ever again, really. Cross your fingers for my standby ticket & me: we need it dearly!

I wish I had taken photos, but sadly my camera died on the first day … and my charger is in a warehouse in Athens. Ha! Talk about luck. So for now, you’ll just have to use your imagination. :-)

Hope you’re well! x

Fabulous Las Vegas

Hi, guys! I’m in Vegas! My dad is getting married this evening, and my sisters, brother, & I got here yesterday. (Travel note: Since when has it cost $25.00 to check a bag? Goodness gracious, Delta.) The flight was excellent, dinner last night was excellent, and today we went to the Hoover Dam … which was breathtaking! Here are a few silly Instagram photos that I’ve taken so far:

There is a delicious little concession stand at the Hoover Dam which has the best soft serve ice cream that I have had in a very long time … or ever, if I’m being perfectly honest.

The Hoover Dam!

There were two statues & a really, really neat monument to commemorate the opening of the dam. Everything was super neat & super Art Deco! The ground of the monument area had metal discs in the pattern of stars on the day & precise time that the dam opened! So cool!

Obligatory “Look, I’m in Nevada!” photo. Look, I’m in Nevada!

I hope you’re well!

How to paint your room without going crazy!

If you happen to be mild to moderately inept at house-y home-y type things (i.e. painting, handiwork, & the like), you might find this helpful! I am absolutely awful at painting, to be truthful, but I’m learning from my mistakes, & hopefully my trial & error will help your painting experience go more smoothly. Here are some things which would have made my room-painting ordeal much, much easier. If you’ve got anything to add, please feel free to do so!

Warning: Long … also potentially useless to those blessed souls who know what to do with a paint brush in their hand.

Moving & Packing & Painting, Hooray!

… better yet, “Ugh!”

Let’s start with an introduction: Hi, I’m Tyler, & I’m in the middle of moving out of my apartment.

Or: Hi, I’m Tyler, & I’m in the middle of studying for a microeconomics final exam.

Also: Hi, I’m Tyler, & I’m barely halfway finished painting my room back to white, and I’ve just got two days before I’m set to move out.

And: Hi, I’m Tyler. Did I mention that I’ve got both work & class every day until I’m set to move out?

I’ve chosen a hell of a time to attempt my first blog post, but we all make poor choices! I suppose my awful timing could be coupled in with my definitively out-of-order priorities, because man oh man my room is in an absolute state right now! I’ve got all of my furniture pushed to the center of the room to allow for painting the walls (mostly) hassle-free. I’ve got my blinds off and laying haphazardly on my bed. I’ve got economics notes all over my desk. I’ve got boxes upon boxes stacked up in the hallway waiting for Saturday, when they get transported to their temporary home: a storage cubicle. I’ve got a list of items which I need to pick up from Home Depot.

And I’ve got this blog, which I’ve been meaning to start for ages, but haven’t really had the motivation. Perhaps I had too little going on in my life to require a distraction such as this (ha ha) … but most likely, I am just the Queen of Questionable Choices, and my attempts at juggling multiple projects — too many projects, really — at one time easily falls under that realm.

Later this month, I’m going to Las Vegas (for my dad’s wedding!) and then to New York City (as a belated birthday present to myself!) Hopefully my life will be a little bit more interesting once I’ve got this pesky business of moving out of the way.
